Happy New Year.

Since our last newsletter in early November, the Hartley Highway Action Group Committee (HHAG) has met on three occasions. Three original members of the committee resigned in the last few months (Duncan Wass, Barry Wilton and Marcia Osterberg-Olsen). To maintain the strength of the committee, two new members have been co-opted, Dennis Plink, a local builder and businessman and Ramsay Moodie who has a corporate business background. Our collective thanks go to  Barry, Duncan and Marcia for their efforts in support of the valley.

Much has happened since our last newsletter . The RTA held briefing meetings in the last week of November to introduce the four “through the valley” route options identified by their consultants and  Cardno’s report on the feasibility of the Newnes Plateau option. In the first week of December, the RTA also held a series of workshops seeking specific insight into constraints that might apply along each of the nominated routes. For Mt Victoria and the valley, these meetings largely covered ground already addressed in the August workshops. They did however, give residents an opportunity to be more specific and gave the HHAG committee a chance to restate our concerns. For the Bell, Chifley road, Newnes community, this series of meetings provided the first opportunity for those communities to comment on the RTAs Newnes Plateau corridor proposal. This feedback, together with broader general community feedback, will be used by the RTA to decide in February whether or not the Newnes corridor investigation will proceed. (more…)
