PROTECT HARTLEY’S FLORA AND FAUNA

Hartley Vale solitude
The Hartley Valley is one of the few places in Australia where the transition in flora from a sandstone escarpment to a shale valley is preserved with plants that don’t grow anywhere else.
Rare native species
The full list is at the end of this page. We have confirmed and registered sightings of the Spotted Tailed Quoll (also known as Native Cat – Tiger Quoll) in the Hartley Vale village, the middle of the current study area.
This rarely seen native will require the RTA to closely consider the habitat destruction caused by a new road.
We have found other rare natives living in the Valley, including the Long Nosed Bandicoot.
Further investigations will hopefully reveal the Eastern Quoll. Though presumed extinct, there have been unconfirmed sightings.
Purple Copper Butterfly
Hartley Valley is one of the few habitats of this endangered species.
According to the NSW Government, one of the key actions to recover this species is:
Where developments or activities are planned in potential habitat, prior thorough surveys should be conducted during the adult flying and juvenile larval seasons (September and October-November, respectively) and appropriate protection measures should be implemented if the species is present.
